BACKGROUND

Contrary to what the phrase “Fat Cat” means in political terms, whether viewed literally or figuratively, Fat Cats Club is set on taking South Africa’s fitness and healthy lifestyle movement to another level.

Founded in 2003 by a group of journalists who tried their hand at playing social, and sometimes competitive, football as a pastime from their jobs in the press, Fat Cats has grown from strength to strength.
 

Eightteen years later, what was once a small-time club has evolved into what the cohort of journos had not initially envisioned.
 

Since its inception, the organisation has morphed into more than just another social club – offering an array of sporting and social codes under the banner of diversifying what organisations who operate in the same space would not dare take on.

Apart from Football, which is the code that helped kick the organisation’s origins off – which is the reason that for the longest time the “FC” (Football Club) detail remained part of the brand’s name - potential members can select to be part of the following offerings: athletics, cycling, golf, a book club and also contribute to the CSI programmes.
 

All governance affairs are overseen by a highly experienced and diverse management, which boasts some of the talented young professionals who share in the club’s vision.

Although the club is based in Johannesburg, Gauteng, it has over the years managed to increase its footprint across South Africa, availing the opportunity to be part of the movement to a wider audience – this encompasses the growth of a strong fan base.

Football
Fat Cats Football Club plays in the Dixi Sports Corporate league, featuring 14 teams.

Athletics
One of the popular Fat Cats establishement, the athletics club was launched back in 2014 with the aim of getting our members who love running to hit the road

Golf
In 2017 the golf club was establish with loads of interests

Cricket
A new kid on the block, cricket is still to find its ground. Currently the team is playing in the Last Man Standing League
